Remembrance Sunday is 8 November 2026. Last year's parades formed from 10.15am at Redhill's Shaw's Corner, Banstead and Horley for the 11am silence.
Remembrance Sunday falls on 8 November 2026, with the two minute silence at 11am. The borough holds three civic services: at Shaw’s Corner War Memorial in Redhill, at Banstead War Memorial and at the Horley War Memorial Gardens. The council has not yet published its 2026 timings, so this page sets out exactly what happened last year, which is the pattern the parades follow each year.
The quick answer
- Sunday 8 November 2026, silence at 11am. Armistice Day is Wednesday 11 November.
- Redhill, Shaw’s Corner: in 2025 parades formed up at 10.30am and the service began at 10.56am, with roads around the memorial closed from 9am to 12.30pm.
- Banstead: in 2025 the parade formed at The Horseshoe at 10.15am and marched down the High Street at 10.40am.
Redhill: Shaw’s Corner War Memorial
This is the borough’s main civic service, attended by the Mayor. The council’s 2025 page, captured by the Internet Archive, set out the running order for Sunday 9 November 2025:
| Time | What happened in 2025 |
|---|---|
| 9.00am | Road closures around the war memorial begin |
| 10.30am | Parades form up at their muster points near the memorial |
| 10.40am | Parades march to their positions |
| 10.55am | Civic party in position |
| 10.56am | Service begins |
| 11.00am | Two minute silence, then readings, prayers, hymns and wreath laying |
| 12.30pm | Road closures lifted |
The 2025 service was led by the Reverend Martin Colton, Area Dean and Vicar of St Mark’s Church, Reigate, with music from the Allegra Concert Band. The council said all were welcome, that it was an outdoor event so to dress for the weather, and that St John Ambulance would attend. Anyone laying a wreath was asked to see the Parade Marshal to be placed in the wreath laying line. Printed orders of service were handed out on the day.
If you are driving across the Reigate to Redhill road that morning, allow for the closures. Our roadworks and travel page carries any closure notice once it is published, and parking in Reigate lists the council car parks nearest the memorial.
Banstead War Memorial
The Banstead service is organised by the Banstead branch of the Royal British Legion with the borough council. The council’s 2025 listing, which has since been taken down, gave this order for Sunday 9 November 2025: the parade formed at The Horseshoe, next to the library, at 10.15am, marched along Banstead High Street at 10.40am, halted at Avenue Road at 10.45am and assembled around the War Memorial at 10.55am for the silence at 11am. The service was conducted by the Reverend Kate Blake, Vicar of All Saints Church, Banstead, and attended by the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Zelanie Cooper. The Legion asked for as many people as possible to join the parade at The Horseshoe.
Horley War Memorial Gardens
Horley Town Council’s account of 2025 describes the shape of the morning. The parade, led by the Redhill Corps of Drums and Band, set off from the Horley Royal British Legion headquarters on Albert Road and marched along Victoria Road to the Memorial Gardens, followed by veterans, councillors, Scouts, Guides, Brownies, Army Cadets, schools and community groups. The Deputy Lieutenant for Surrey laid the King’s Wreath, and the town council said 800 orders of service were printed for the congregation.
Horley has two related dates in the same week. In 2025 the town’s Garden of Remembrance was rededicated on 5 November, and on Armistice Day residents gathered in the town centre for the national two minutes’ silence. The town council has not given times for 2026.
Reigate town and the churches
The civic services are in Redhill, Banstead and Horley, but the parishes hold their own. St Mark’s Church on Alma Road published its 2024 arrangement as a church service at 9.45am followed by the Act of Remembrance at the war memorial at 10.55am. Check your own parish church’s website nearer the day, as times can change year to year.
The council’s 2025 mayoral newsletter added that Reigate Town Hall was lit up on the evening of Remembrance Sunday to mark Remembrance and Armistice Day, and that various services were held around the borough on 11 November.
Still to be confirmed
- The 2026 timings and road closures for Redhill and Banstead. The council takes last year’s pages down and posts new ones in the autumn. We will update this page when they appear, and expect them from mid October.
- Who leads each service and which band plays.
- Horley’s parade times. The town council usually reports the event afterwards rather than in advance.
