Gatton Park

The Gatton Trust’s events listing has something on most weekdays of half term, all bookable in advance and most aimed at under-sevens.

The big one is Halloween Witches and Wizards on Sunday 25 October, noon to 4pm: a spooky trail round the grounds, themed activities in Gatton Hall and the tea room open. The Trust says it is “ideal for younger children”. Tickets are £8 per adult and £3 per child online, or £10 and £3 on the day if there is space, with arrival slots at noon or 1.30pm (Gatton Park).

The children’s sessions cost £8.50 per child for Den Building on 19 October, Funnybones on 21 and 23 October and Junk Modelling: Haunted Houses on 22 October. Forest Fun on 26 October is £10 per child, with accompanying adults free. Only the children taking part need a ticket for the story sessions.

Priory Farm, South Nutfield

Just over the borough boundary off the A25 east of Redhill (Sandy Lane, RH1 4EJ), Priory Farm runs its Halloween season across the whole of half term.

  • Pumpkin field: open daily from 17 to 31 October. Walk in for £6 online, or take the tractor ride out for £9 online; £1 more on the door, plus a 50p online booking fee. Tickets are needed for everyone aged 1 and over, and the pumpkins cost extra, from £1.50. The field has its own car park, separate from Discovery Land. The whole estate is card only (Priory Farm).
  • Halloween trail at Discovery Land: daily from 17 October to Sunday 1 November. Peak entry £12 online, off-peak £9, under 2s free. It closes at 5pm to 24 October and 4.30pm from 25 October (Priory Farm).

Free and cheap

  • ParkPlay: every Saturday, 11am to noon at Carrington School, Noke Drive, Redhill. Free games for children and adults; register at ParkPlay.com first. Under 14s need an adult with them (Reigate & Banstead).
  • Redhill Market: the High Street market runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 9am to 5pm (Reigate & Banstead).
  • Redhill Library: the touring Agatha Christie: A World of Mystery exhibition opens on Friday 30 October and runs to 12 December. The launch evening on Thursday 29 October is free but must be booked (Surrey County Council).
  • Horley fireworks: the Horley Lions display is on Saturday 17 October, the first day of the holiday, and tickets are not sold on the gate. Details on our Horley fireworks page.

Not open this half term

Reigate Priory Museum is closed until further notice. Its website says roof and ceiling damage and further structural damage to the Priory building have shut it, and it normally opens only on term-time Wednesdays and Saturdays anyway (Reigate Priory Museum). The park around it is open as usual. The Harlequin in Redhill is also still closed.

Still to be confirmed

  • Surrey libraries have not yet posted half term children’s sessions for Redhill, Horley or Banstead libraries. We will add them when they appear.
  • Prices for Gatton’s Mixed Media Canvas and Autumn Open Day are on the Trust’s booking pages closer to the date.
